TITHING EXISTED LONG BEFORE MALACHI 3

Genesis 14:20 And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.

One time a fellow told me that he used to tithe, but now his eyes are opened, so he doesn’t tithe anymore; this is actually spiritual blindness. Many of these people are only looking for a way to not give to God. There may be something wrong with the way some people may be preaching and receiving tithe. But there is absolutely nothing wrong with the subject of tithing in the New Testament – it is still a valid teaching that promises great blessings to those who practice it.

Some people say that tithing passed with the law. Firstly, tithing existed long before the law was given by Moses on Mount Sinai. The first person to tithe in the scriptures is Abraham. Remember Abraham never lived under the Old Testament. There is a vast difference between the old testament and the old testament section of the Bible. The old testament began with Moses on Mount Sinai. While the old testament section of the Bible begins with the book of Genesis.

Now in Genesis 14:20, Abraham tithed to a priest called Melchizedek. According to the scriptures, Jesus came in the order of the priest of Melchizedek (Psalm 110:4). This means that Jesus functions as a priest the same way Melchizedek did. Now the question is, did Melchizedek receive tithe? Who gave the tithe to Melchizedek?

Abraham tithed to the priesthood of Melchizedek. Are you the seed of Abraham? Is the priesthood of Melchizedek still ongoing? These are questions you need to answer sincerely from scriptures. Galatians 3:29 says, “And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.”

According to this scripture, if you are born again, you are the seed of Abraham. If Abraham your father tithed, why is it that you don’t want to tithe? Seriously, I have a problem with anyone who calls himself the seed of Abraham and doesn’t practice tithing. If you don’t tithe, you are not following in the footsteps of your father Abraham.

Today, Jesus still functions as a priest after the order of Melchizedek. In heaven, He is still receiving tithes. Hebrews 7:4‭, ‬8 says, “Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils. And here men that die receive tithes; but there he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that he liveth.”‬‬

Under the law tithing came with a threat. But tithing originally came as a revelation from God to Abraham. Isaac and Jacob tithed to God. Today, under grace, we still tithe but not with threats and curses. We tithe because we love the Lord. Take your tithing seriously henceforth. Don’t let anyone cheat you out of God’s blessings with vain and subtle words. Follow the scriptures.
