Genesis 6:8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.
Grace is one of the richest words in scripture. It is the fountain from which all of the possibilities of God are delivered. What are we without the grace of God? What I intend to do in this epistle is to show you one major function of the grace of God. I would to God you will grasp this truth. And this truth is that grace preserves.
The word “grace” in the old testament is from different Hebrew words. The first time the word grace is mentioned in scripture is in Genesis 6:8 which is in relation to a man called Noah, whose name means rest. And in this instance, Noah found grace in the sight of God and he was preserved from the flood that destroyed everything that breathed on Earth. If not for the grace of God, Noah would have perished with the rest of the people.
The other Hebrew word that can be translated grace is “hesed”. And in this instance, the first time the word “hesed” was used in scripture was in relation to a man name Lot, a nephew of Abraham. Genesis 19:19 says, Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy MERCY, which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die. The word “mercy” in the above scripture is from the Hebrew word “hesed” which can also be translated as grace.
And in this instance because Lot found grace, he was preserved, all of Sodom and Gomorrah perished by fire and brimestone.
I have given you two major instances in scripture where major players were preserved while several thousands perished by both flood and fire. And in these instances, the two Hebrew words for Grace were first used. In Bible interpretation, anytime there is a first mention of any word in scripture it is vital you get to know how and why they were used; it tells you the main essence of that word. And in all of these scenarios, grace preserved men’s lives.
The world in which we live is wicked and lies in wickedness. You cannot live with your ability and wisdom; you will need the immense grace of God to survive the satanic onslaught in the earth. You must learn to trust in the grace of God like never before. Grace will preserve your life from destruction; grace is the kingdom preservative that preserves those who connect to His grace by faith.
