2 Samuel 1:21 Ye mountains of Gilboa, let there be no dew, neither let there be rain, upon you, nor fields of offerings: for there the shield of the mighty is vilely cast away, the shield of Saul, as though he had not been anointed with oil.
Understanding the anointing is crucial to our walk with God. If we are going to get the best out of the anointing of God, it is important we understand what the anointing is and its function. Unfortunately, many of God’s folks lack the understanding of the anointing and what it can do for the believer in Christ. King David knew something about the anointing that many of God’s people don’t have a clue of.
The moment David killed Goliath, his troubles began. King Saul persecuted David for nearly 13 years, seeking to destroy him in order to prevent him from becoming the next king of Israel. David wandered from one nation to another; one time he will be in the woods, another time in the mountains or the stronghold. In all of these instances, on two different occasions, David had the opportunity to kill Saul but he refused.
While at Ziglak, news came to him that Saul and Jonathan were dead; and the incident happened on mount Gilboa. When David heard it, he rent his clothes and made one of the finest lamentations of all time. David said, for there the shield of the mighty is vilely cast away, the shield of Saul, as though he had not been anointed with oil. David knew that there are certain things that should not happen to anyone anointed of God. What David implied was that, Saul shouldn’t have died the way he did because he was the anointed of God.
The moment you received the Holy Ghost, you were anointed by God. This implies that there are certain evil occurrences that should not be seen in your life. David knew that one function of the anointing is that it preserves. But Saul through his disobedience died as though he was not anointed. Sometimes when you hear that a man of God or a believer had committed suicide or died in a car wreck, you begin to ask yourself, is this the way that it ought to be?
Religious folks will tell you that, God gave, God has taken away. If you know your Bible very well, there is what we call “the fool’s death”. David again said of Abner that he died like a fool even though he was an army General. How could a man like Elisha whose bones raised a dead man die of sickness? Something is seriously wrong; don’t take these things lightly. Death, sickness, car wrecks and plagues are not consistent with the one anointed of God. The anointing on your life repels these evil occurrences. Learn to believe in the anointing; obey the promptings of the Spirit and you will walk tall over sickness, plagues and all the evils of life.
